Erin Van Quill – Portraits in the Milwaukee Studio

The moment I met Erin I was instantly enamored with her style. She wore these amazing rainbow pants to her consultation and I was obsessed! The more she told me about her goals and interests and style the more I knew we were meant to work together. To say we had fun during her photo shoot would be an understatement. I am thrilled with the results and I can’t wait until she comes to visit me again.

And now Erin’s experience, in her own words:

“I found Jennifer thanks to a Google search for Milwaukee photographers who do professional headshots. After looking through her website and getting a rave review from an old friend who had already worked with her, I went onto her website to fill out a request for a consultation. On the questionnaire Jennifer asks, “Why do you want to be photographed?” At first I simply put that it was because I needed professional headshots for the new business I was starting, but after watching Jennifer’s videoAre You Afraid of the Camera?, I knew there was more to it than that. I had finally learned to love who I was on the inside, but I was still trying to love myself on the outside. I realized that aside from getting photos done for my business, I needed to get out of my comfort zone.
At my consultation, I had the most wonderful time talking with Jennifer about what I was envisioning. She made me feel so comfortable as I explained how the deep connection and love I have for Disney inspired me to start my journey to become an independent travel agent with MEI and Mouse Fan Travel. (I love Disney so much that when she asked who my style icons were, the first person I said was Minnie Mouse!) I asked Jennifer if we would be able to do a shoot that suited my quirky personality and incorporated Disney vibes all while being professional. She, of course, said yes!
I did some brainstorming afterwards to figure out what kind of specific shots I wanted to get. With Jennifer’s help, we decided to do a couple different types of photos – professional yet playful and fun for my business, and Old Hollywood that appealed to my love of film and glamorous stars like Ginger Rogers and Audrey Hepburn.
The big day rolled around and I was definitely nervous about it, but I soon found myself to be completely comfortable just being 100% me, which is not something I normally feel around people I don’t know well. Jennifer put on some music to help set the vibe as I sat down with Katrina for makeup and hair. Katrina did AMAZING work giving me the vintage vibe I was looking for while bringing out all my natural beauty. She’s a miracle worker and I give her major props for tackling my naturally curly and outrageously thick hair!
Once I was through with makeup and hair, I got started working with Jennifer on taking the photos. For as long I can remember, I have always been ridiculously awkward when posing for pictures. Either I’m turned a weird way or my ever-present double chin is seen. Jennifer was so patient with me and gave me so much confidence that eventually I just let it all loose. I don’t know that I have ever laughed so hard in my life! Even though I had only met Jennifer once before at my consultation, I felt as if I had known her for years. Sadly before I knew it, the shoot was over. I wished it never had to end because it was easily one of the best and most fun days of my life! Jennifer made me feel incredibly special, beautiful, and proud to be the unique individual that I am.
When it came time for the reveal a few weeks later, I think I was actually more nervous for it than I was for the shoot itself. Jennifer had texted me not long after shoot day saying how excited she was for me to see the photos, so naturally I had built up in my head how they would look and worried about them not meeting my expectations. Needless to say, I didn’t have anything to worry about!
Jennifer’s work COMPLETELY EXCEEDED my expectations! When I saw my photos for the first time, I was so happy I could have cried! I couldn’t believe it was me in those photos! I think I even asked her a few times if it actually was me just to make sure! Having these photos has given me so much self confidence and has truly shown me that I am just as beautiful on the outside as I am on the inside!
I cannot stop staring at them! They are so incredibly beautiful and it’s still hard to believe that it is me in these portraits!
Working with Jennifer is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and if you are debating about whether or not to get your photos taken by her, I can’t encourage you enough to say yes! There aren’t enough words to describe how happy you will be for deciding to be photographed by this truly exceptional and talented woman. Jennifer Brindley is a very rare gem in this world and her mission to empower women through her artwork is beyond inspiring! I am so grateful and honored for the opportunity to have been photographed by such an artist! I send all the thanks, love, and good vibes in the world to Jennifer and I look forward to working with her again in the future!” ~Erin
