I photographed Jen’s wedding back when I was still photographing weddings, and it was one of my very favorite of ALL time. She’s so down to earth and kind, and such a beautiful person inside and out. Well, Jen decided to apply for my 40 & over Model Call this year and I was so thrilled to photograph her.
Now I’ll let Jen share about her experience:
“I am a fiercely driven goal orientated person who is constantly on the journey of trying to be the best version of myself that I can be. I believe when you are working to be the best version of yourself, you also bring out the best in others. This is what I wanted my photographs to capture about me.
When I saw the Over 40 Model Call” pop up on her social media page, I decided I was going to take the plunge and go for it. This was going to be waaay out of my comfort zone. I am that woman who does not wear dresses, feels I am too short, and the personal feelings of inadequacies could go on.
Jennifer photographed my very unique wedding in 2017 and she captured amazing images of my husband and I. Our wedding was one of the last she photographed before she opened her own portrait studio. Through the last couple of years I have seen Jennifer’s beautiful art captured through her lens of the many women from various cultures and backgrounds and it is easy to see why she is a master at her craft, and bringing out the very best in those she photographs.
Jennifer is all about the details from start to finish. I was impressed with her lovely crafted folder with all of the recommended prep work (seriously impressive!) to gear you up for your shoot. She has the desire to know you and make you shine, and you instantly feel the connection to trust her judgement and recommendations! Her studio is comfortable and welcoming and that is where I was met by Katrina for hair/makeup.
Katrina is also a master at her craft and pulled off my hair and makeup perfectly. She was so fun and easy to work with, and highlighted facial features that were “amazing” that I did not ever think twice about. I am such a control freak about the amount of makeup I wear, but allowed her to use her own creative judgment. She asked me several times during the process if I was happy with how things were turning out. I am excited she is close to my home so I can pay her additional visits in the future.
Jennifer is truly a dream to work with. She had a killer music playlist going, and took me step by step through the photo session. She is not about the gimmicks and one size fits all. She is about individualizing and empowering you, and that is exactly how I felt throughout the entire photo session. Every outfit selected for this shoot was an outfit that I would have never selected for myself, and they were all dresses! The session was everything I could have imagined and more, but most of all it was fun!
At the reveal, I honestly did not know what to expect. Looking at photos of yourself is hard! When we went through the photos it was like going through a dreamy novel and Jennifer pointed out so many special details of the photos we went through. She truly makes this whole process about you and it is evident through her creative space, interaction with you, and talent to capture the things on film that you already love about yourself, but also the things you tend to try to hide about yourself. ” ~Jen
