More Than a Portrait

There are moments in life that deserve more than a quick snapshot.

A milestone birthday. A new chapter. A personal transformation. A season you never want to forget.

Or maybe no reason at all beyond wanting to see yourself in a way you never have before.

A portrait session isn’t about being photogenic or knowing how to pose. It’s about slowing down long enough to create something meaningful. Together, we’ll create images that celebrate who you are today and become part of your family’s story for years to come.

A Portrait Experience Designed Around You

From the moment you book your session, every detail is thoughtfully planned.

We’ll discuss your vision, style, and how you’d like to be photographed. You’ll have access to a curated wardrobe of more than 1,000 garments, professional hair and makeup, expert posing throughout your session, and fully retouched images that reflect the very best version of you.

Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, updating family heirlooms, or simply creating something beautiful for yourself, you’ll never be expected to know what to do. That’s my job.

EVERY SESSION INCLUDES

✓ Personal Style Consultation

✓ Professional Hair & Makeup

✓ Curated Wardrobe Collection (00–24)

✓ Up to 10 Looks

✓ Fully Guided Posing

THE PORTRAIT EXPERIENCE

Every portrait session is thoughtfully planned from start to finish. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Style Consultation & Wardrobe Fitting

Before you ever step into the studio for your session, you’ll complete a detailed style questionnaire that helps me understand who you are, what you’re celebrating, and how you want to be photographed. I’ll use your answers to curate a personalized wardrobe fitting from my studio collection before you arrive, so instead of starting with a rack of every option, you’ll be greeted with a thoughtfully selected collection chosen specifically for you.

Then, together, we’ll refine the final wardrobe, discuss your vision, and plan every detail of your portrait experience.

2. Hair & Makeup

Your session begins with professional hair and makeup by Katrina of Allure Artistry, one of Wisconsin’s leading makeup artists. Whether you prefer an effortless, natural look or full editorial glamour, Katrina creates a polished look that reflects your personal style while photographing beautifully under studio lighting.

Her expertise across all skin tones, hair textures, and beauty styles ensures you’ll look like yourself on your very best day.

3. Portrait Session

This is where all of the planning comes to life. I’ll demonstrate poses, coach you through every expression, and make small adjustments throughout the session to create portraits that feel polished without feeling posed. Most clients arrive saying they’re nervous. Most leave saying, “That was so much fun.”

4. Image Reveal & Artwork Design

Once your portraits have been professionally retouched, we’ll meet over Zoom for your private image reveal. You’ll see your finished portraits for the first time, select your favorite images, and design how you’d like to enjoy them, whether that’s custom wall art, a handcrafted album, a matted folio box, or a digital collection. I’ll guide you through every option so you can choose pieces that fit both your home and the way you want to remember this chapter of your life.

5. The Finished Collection

Once everything has been carefully prepared, we arrange a time for you to pick up your finished artwork. Whether you’re taking home a framed portrait, an heirloom album, a folio box, or digital images, my hope is that these become photographs you’ll enjoy for decades and eventually pass down to the people you love.

Lauren’s Portrait Experience

When Jennifer announced she was looking for women over 35 for a ‘love yourself’ portrait campaign, I applied on a whim. I never imagined I’d be chosen. The idea of stepping in front of a professional camera terrified me.

A few years earlier, I had lost my mom unexpectedly. Grief changed everything. I lost my confidence, withdrew from the world, and struggled to recognize the woman I used to be. I hoped this experience might help me find a small piece of myself again.

From our very first consultation, Jennifer made me feel comfortable. She listened to my story, encouraged me to incorporate my roller derby identity into the session, and created an experience that felt deeply personal rather than intimidating. By the time the session arrived, I wasn’t afraid anymore. I was excited.

When I saw my portraits for the first time, I cried. My husband cried too.

Jennifer didn’t simply photograph me. She captured the woman I had been trying so hard to become again. Then I realized something incredible.

She wasn’t someone new. She had been there all along.

Working with Jennifer became an important part of my healing journey. She gave me the opportunity to see myself the way the people who love me already did, and that gift is something I’ll carry with me forever.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I’ve never had professional portraits taken. Will you tell me what to do?

Absolutely. Most of my clients have never been professionally photographed before. Every pose, expression, and movement is fully guided throughout your session. You don’t need modeling experience or to know how to pose. My job is to make you feel comfortable and create portraits that look natural, confident, and authentic.

What should I wear?

Every portrait session includes a personal style consultation before your session. You’ll also have access to my studio wardrobe featuring more than 1,000 curated garments in sizes 00-24. Together, we’ll create a wardrobe that reflects your personality and photographs beautifully.

Is professional hair and makeup included?

Yes. Every portrait session includes professional hair and makeup by my longtime artist, Katrina. She creates polished, camera-ready looks that still feel like you. Most clients tell me they feel confident before we even begin photographing.

I’m nervous about being photographed.

That’s completely normal. In fact, I’d be more surprised if you weren’t.

Nearly every client tells me they’re nervous before their session, and many mention it again in their reviews afterward. My goal is to create an experience where you can relax, have fun, and stop thinking about the camera. By the end of the session, most clients are surprised by how much they enjoyed the experience.

Do you retouch the images?

Yes. Every purchased image is professionally retouched. My approach is to create polished, timeless portraits while keeping you looking like yourself. Temporary distractions are removed, while permanent features that make you uniquely you are respected.

Can I include someone else in my session?

Absolutely. Partners, parents, adult children, siblings, and friends are welcome to join your portrait session for an additional fee. If you’re interested in a dedicated couples session, you can also learn more about those here.

Couple’s Portrait Session Details

How many outfits can I wear?

Most portrait sessions include up to ten wardrobe changes, depending on the looks you’d like to create. Between your own clothing and the studio wardrobe, we’ll build a collection of images with a variety of styles, from casual to editorial.

How much does a portrait session cost?

The portrait session fee is $449 + tax and includes your consultation, professional hair and makeup, access to the studio wardrobe, your portrait session, and an image reveal appointment. Digital images and artwork are purchased separately, allowing you to choose the collection that best fits your needs.

I don’t look like the people in your portfolio.

You might be surprised how many of them felt exactly the same way.

The people you see throughout my portfolio are everyday humans, many of whom told me they were nervous before walking through the studio door. Beautiful portraits aren’t about being naturally photogenic. They’re the result of thoughtful styling, expert lighting, and years of experience helping people feel comfortable in front of the camera.

How far in advance should I book?

Most clients book 1-2 months in advance, especially during busy seasons. If you’re hoping to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or other milestone, I recommend reserving your session early (2.5-3 months early) so your date is more likely to be available, and so we have plenty of time to plan every detail.

Do I have to lose weight before my session?

No.

I can’t tell you how many people have said, “I’ll book once I lose ten pounds.”

Life doesn’t wait for perfect timing, and neither should you.

My job is to use lighting, posing, wardrobe, and expression to photograph you at your very best. You deserve beautiful portraits exactly as you are today.

What if I don’t know what kind of portraits I want?

That’s one of the reasons we begin with a consultation.

Some clients arrive with a Pinterest board. Others simply know they want to celebrate a milestone or update the way they see themselves. We’ll work together to create a session that feels authentic to you, whether that’s timeless, dramatic, playful, elegant, or somewhere in between.

Meet Jennifer

I’ve been photographing people professionally since 2007, and one thing has remained true through every year, every portrait, and every person who has stepped into my studio: no two stories are ever the same.

That’s why every portrait session begins long before the camera comes out. I take the time to learn who you are, what you’re celebrating, and what you hope to remember when you look back at these photographs years from now. From wardrobe styling and professional hair and makeup to expert posing and thoughtful direction, every detail is designed with intention.

Whether this is your first professional portrait session or your fifth, my goal is simple: to create photographs that feel like you at your very best.
