“Because society telegraphs that women are objects through media, norms, and gender roles, I avoided what I thought was “being objectified.” Plus I feel like I’ve never taken a picture I love of myself.
And while not a mid-life crisis, I’ve started to learn about my authentic self for the first time in my life as I work through my early 40s. I’m realizing my innate power and capacity for varied interests, and that I’ve let the patriarchy define how I view women, including myself. Well, $&*% that.
I found Jenn through a friend who was photographed by her. As I looked through her work, I recognized so many familiar faces -they looked so natural, and I saw how Jenn captured their true selves.
I decided to jump in, and I’m so glad that I did. Jenn is an amazing human – genuine, kind, funny, and talented. She makes the whole process so easy and fun, and Katrina is the bonus. I loved the collaboration of the 3 of us during the shoot, and together we came up with some of my favorite images.
The reveal was mind blowing; to be presented with a slideshow of pictures from the shoot was surprisingly emotional. She makes the experience feel as special as it really is: a revelation of your awesomeness.
Jenn is an expert in her craft, and she truly captured my authentic self. I will have these photos to remind me of who that is if I ever forget, and I’m so grateful for that.
